Franken: Comcast’s Previous Behavior Doesn’t Bode Well For Time Warner Cable Deal

This merger is of major concern for everybody. Comcast is a problem child as is and what makes ANYONE think that it will get better with this merger?! I say NO!

And now for something completely different

As the traditional Monty Python phrase goes

In this case I feel it to be completely appropriate

While I was wandering the web I came across a couple of YouTube vids that captured my attention and I was totally blown away by these two guys, Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser. They perform under the name 2Cellos which is fitting for two guys playing two cellos. How convenient! Let me get top the good stuff here. The staging for the vid is frickin hilarious. I loved the hell out of it. See what you think.

What caught my attention was how similar the scenario was to an event I witnessed, twice actually, a few years back at a pair of Jethro Tull concerts where Ian Anderson brought out a young lady, Lucia Micarelli, while unknown to most she is an accomplished classic violinist. What happened next was a classical duet with Ian that quickly evolved into a ripping rendition of a Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody. The next concert she ripped out Led Zeppelins’ Kashmir. It blew everyone away, to say the least. Check out her vid to see what I mean. Enjoy!

While I have been known to occasionally listen to classical music these events have given a whole new twist to modern music on classical instruments. And there is no way to express the energy needed to pull that off! Take a close look at Lucia with no shoes on while she rips out Kashmir. Now I know why.

Hope this expands your horizons with “SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT!”

Volkswagen boots UAW! Excellent! It’s about time

The UAW loses key vote at Volkswagen Chattanooga.

Nice to see workers finally seeing through the union scam of a better workplace.

Even our glorious Commander and Chief got involved before the election. Yep! Claims that the Republicans are the problem. And exactly what does Mr. Obama have to do with a UAW vote in Tennessee? Cause he is concerned? Nah! Just poking his nose in where he isn’t needed. And throwing around vacuous accusations of meddling. Isn’t that what he was doing?

(Reuters) – President Barack Obama on Friday waded into Washington’s war of words over a union organizing election in Tennessee when he accused Republicans of trying to block labor’s efforts at an auto plant in that state, according to a Democratic aide who heard the remarks. See the article here REUTERS

Could it be that they are one of his largest financial backers? And on  top of that it appears that there were even incentives from mama Volkswagen to NOT go with the UAW.

CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee (Reuters) – U.S. Senator Bob Corker of Tennessee said on Wednesday he has been “assured” that if workers at the Volkswagen AG plant in his hometown of Chattanooga reject United Auto Worker representation, the company will reward the plant with a new product to build. See the article here REUTERS

It has always been my contention that unions are the engine behind our slow economy and the reason for sending jobs off shore. They are the main engine because of their artificially high wages in the plants and factories nationwide. And like politicians they are almost impossible to get rid of rogue workers without an act of congress and two letters from God!

A classic case is the Michigan school teacher, a convicted felon, that the union wants reinstated with $200K of back pay. Say What!?

We will wait to see if Mr. Obama gets involved in this one too.

Later.

You remember the forth amendment don’t you?

While out on the web I cam across a thoughtful article that at the time hit home to me and I thought I would share it. Got me to thinking.

The End of Private Property in the Era of the American Police State

John W. Whitehead – The Rutherford Institute

If the government can tell you what you can and cannot do within the privacy of your home, whether it relates to what you eat, what you smoke or whom you love, you no longer have any rights whatsoever within your home.

If government officials can fine and arrest you for growing vegetables in your front yard, praying with friends in your living room, installing solar panels on your roof, and raising chickens in your backyard, you’re no longer the owner of your property. If school officials can punish your children for what they do or say while at home or in your care, your children are not your own—they are the property of the state.

If government agents can invade your home, break down your doors, kill your dog, damage your furnishings and terrorize your family, your property is no longer private and secure—it belongs to the government. Likewise, if police can forcefully draw your blood, strip search you, and probe you intimately, your body is no longer your own, either.

Walmart oil change goes wrong

Just say NO!We will change your oil and crash your car all for one low price!

Not that I am a fan of Walmart, and I am not, but this might be another reason NOT to get your oil changed there.

I know it is not a real  high tech operation to change the oil in a car but it becomes a problem when you put minimum wage part timers under a car and then trust them to move it in and out of the work bays. Here is a glowing example from South Carolina.

A Texas woman brought her car in for an oil change, but instead her car was “heavily damaged” after going through the garage door and hitting a guardrail, reports WLTX.com.

“It was time to get my oil changed anyway, my oil light came on, so I took it on in to Walmart. 10,15 minutes later they’re calling me to come back,” she said at the time. “The manager walked in and he’s like, ‘I really don’t know how to tell you this,’ he said ‘But, one of our techs has just crashed your car through the bay door and ultimately into the guardrail behind the store.”         Read more HERE

And, as I would expect from Walmart, it appears that despite fessing up to one of their employees crashing the car, they leave it at that. And instead of assisting with the damage control and being helpful in resolving the dire situation , which would be the right thing to do, they pull the old Walmart stonewall. That is until a local news station, WLTX, got involved. Then things started to move in a positive direction

Newberry, SC (WLTX) — News19 has gotten results for a Midlands woman who took her car in for an oil change and ended up with a damaged car. “Not having a vehicle here and knowing you need to go somewhere, I felt helpless,” Misti Colson said.

Eight days ago, Colson went to the Walmart in Newberry expecting an oil change, but instead her car was heavily damaged after going through the garage door and hitting a guardrail.

Colson said communication with the the insurance company Claims Management Inc. has been inconsistent. “They didn’t want to talk to me, they didn’t have any answers for me and I just felt like I was going absolutely nowhere,” Colson said.

Since News19’s report on Friday, things have turned around.  Read more HERE.

As can be expected of Walmart, it wasn’t until the news station picked up on it that the attitude changed and all of a sudden they got really helpful! Isn’t that amazing! Actually, NO. This “We are Walmart, So sue us” mentality pervades their whole environment from the top down. And if she hadn’t had the media step in she would more than likely be wresting with them today.

And it is an arrogance that should be annoying people but, in my humble opinion, consumers are willing to look the other way all because of their “low” prices. Why do people put up with this?! Screw their “low” prices! I don’t need to be treated like a second class citizen because it is them. And despite what they want you to think you can get the same stuff elsewhere and get way better service.
