Army Spc. Michael Sharkey get deployed to Afghanistan and when he returns you is stationed in Hawaii. Now that he is being released he finds that the home he owns in New Port Richey,FL is has been occupied by squatters. Not just any squatters, but ex-cons! Then when he asks for local police intervention they refuse saying it is a civil matter!
Fiction? Nope! The real deal!
When the news of Army Spc. Michael Sharkey’s plight hit the air it sparked a whirlwind of anger at both the police department and the squatters. The outrage was so intense that many resources were called into play. The primary assistance started with Veterans Warriors enlisting the help of an attorney who is handling the legal eviction process. Mainly because the squatters were refusing to leave. Beyond that there were many offers from outsiders to ” make the offenders uncomfortable and persuade the squatters to leave peacefully”. You can read that any way you wish.

The outpouring of support came in many forms. And the results were predictable and excellent. After initially fighting the eviction the squatters, Ex-convict Julio Ortiz and his girlfriend, Fatima Cardoso, have decided it might be a good Idea to vacate the house.

Generous donors like Lowe’s donated the wood to secure the home and volunteers are now watching the house to ensure there is no more damage. All I cansay at this point is Excellent! It makes you wonder how we have gotten to these days and times that this has to happen.
